It was 23 years ago when the first Ducati Monster was being presented at the Cologne Exhibition. The M900. The design of the first Monster was back then and is today just revolutionary. Naked. With a grid-pipe-frame. Bursting with self-confidence. In the year 2016 Ducati adds another model to the Monster family. And not just any model - the top model. The Ducati Monster 1200R.

According to Ducati the new Monster should complete the product line as a sport-oriented naked bike. The three 1200 models share the same Testastretta 11° engine, but differ in technical specifications. The standard model features 135 bhp and 118 Nm torque, the 1200 S has 145 bhp and 125 Nm and the top of the engines in the new Monster has 160 bhp and 131 Nm torque. That sounds promising.

The service intevals of the new Monster is 15.000 kilometers for services and 30.000 for valve clearance controls. The same holds for the smaller 821 engines.

Besides enormous performance statements the 1200 R also comes with some electronical helpers. DSP (Ducati Safety Pack), obligatory ABS, Ducati Traction Control and Ducati Riding Modes. The latter let the driver choose between three driving modes. Behind the scenes, the optimal mix between performance unfolding, ABS and traction control is being combined - Urban, Touring and Sport.

Heading from Wollongong, down the Princess Highway, all the way to Eden. Sounds like a long way but, there are heaps of stops on the way. It could take 8 to 12 hours to do it, if you really wanted to. But for me, I’ll cruise, I didn’t need to stop until Batemans Bay for fuel, already been there so I pushed on, through to Bega and a stop at the Yellow Peach Dam Rest Area, was awesome...

THE COUNTRY-, BLUES & WHISKEY MOTORCYCLE TOUR. GIRLS JUST WANNA HAVE FUN PT.2

Published by GINA DREWES at July 13, 2018 in Tours
I don't listen to country, rarely blues - and whiskey is not necessarily the drink of my choice. But how could I have said no to a route that has the same title and leads through the country where my Harley was born! Although I had not yet had the urge to explore America, this motorcycle route through the southern states aroused my curiosity.
